Summary
Short answer
The error message “Execution type must be entered” means that the selected ICP/ICV VAT code requires additional fields to be completed in the booking screen. These fields must be filled in before the invoice can be posted.
This error only occurs when no ICP/ICV VAT codes have been configured in the company settings.
When do you use this article?
Use this article when you receive the following error message while processing an invoice in Twinfield or Basecone:
Execution type must be entered
This error occurs when an ICP/ICV VAT code has been selected and the required ICP information is missing or has not been configured correctly.
Cause of the Error
The selected VAT code makes additional ICP fields available in the booking screen. These fields are mandatory and must be completed before the invoice can be posted.
The required fields are:
Execution type:
Goods
Services
Country code
VAT number
If any of these fields are missing, the error message “Execution type must be entered” will appear.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Check the Company Settings in Basecone
Go to:
Settings → Companies → Actions (Edit) → Settings tab
Scroll down to VAT settings and review the following fields.
Purchase ICP VAT Codes
Ensure that this field is empty.
Purchases normally do not use an ICP VAT code.
Sales ICP VAT Codes
Select a VAT code in the Sales ICP VAT Codes field.
Save the Settings
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Click Save.
Step 2: Select the VAT Code on the Invoice
After saving the settings:
Open the invoice booking screen.
Select the configured ICP VAT code.
Additional ICP fields will now become available.
Complete the following fields:
Select whether the transaction concerns goods or services.
Enter the country code.
Enter the corresponding VAT number.
Once all required fields have been completed, the invoice can be posted.
Still Receiving the Same Error Message?
If the same error message continues to appear after completing the steps above, check the VAT settings in Twinfield.
Go to:
Twinfield → Settings → Company Settings
Review the following settings.
Check 1: VAT Code Settings
Open the settings of the VAT code used on the invoice and verify:
Which VAT group is assigned to the VAT code.
Check 2: VAT Group Settings
Open the settings of the assigned VAT group and verify:
That the ICP (Intra-Community Supplies and Services) checkbox is selected.
Result
When:
the ICP VAT settings in Basecone are configured correctly;
all required ICP fields have been completed;
the VAT code is linked to the correct VAT group; and
the VAT group is marked as ICP (Intra-Community Supplies and Services);
the invoice can be posted successfully without this error message.
