Accountview: An error occurred while saving . Control account must be of type Creditor

When creating a new supplier in Basecone, the following error message may appear: "An error occurred while saving . Control account must be of type Creditor." This error indicates that an incorrect general ledger account has been entered in the Control

Written by Debora Heg-Jobsen

Cause

The Control Account must be linked to a general ledger account that is configured as a Creditor account.

If another type of general ledger account is selected, Basecone cannot save the supplier and the error message will be displayed.

Solution

Step 1: Verify the Supplier Code

When creating a supplier in Basecone, the supplier code is not automatically generated from AccountView.

You must manually enter the next available supplier code.

How to Find the Next Available Supplier Code

You can check this in either of the following ways:

Option 1: In AccountView

  1. Open the supplier overview in AccountView.

  2. Locate the most recently created supplier.

  3. Use the next available supplier code.

Option 2: In Basecone

  1. Click in the Supplier field.

  2. Browse the existing suppliers.

  3. Identify the highest supplier code currently in use.

  4. Enter the next available supplier code.

Step 2: Enter the Correct Control Account

During supplier creation, you will see a field called Control Account.

Important

The Control Account must always be the company's standard Accounts Payable (Creditors) general ledger account.

  1. Open the Control Account field.

  2. Type "creditors" or "accounts payable".

  3. Select the standard creditor general ledger account from the list.

  4. Save the supplier again.

Selecting the correct creditor account ensures that the Control Account is recognized as the required Creditor type.

Common Mistake

A common mistake is entering the expense or cost ledger account directly into the Control Account field.

This is incorrect.

Correct Usage

Field

Purpose

Control Account

Standard Accounts Payable (Creditors) general ledger account

Booking lines in the lower section of the booking screen

General ledger account where the invoice costs should be posted

Where Should the Invoice Ledger Account Be Entered?

The general ledger account that determines where the invoice expenses are posted should not be entered in the supplier master data.

Instead, enter this account when processing the invoice:

  1. Open the invoice booking screen.

  2. Navigate to the booking lines in the lower section of the screen.

  3. Select the appropriate expense or revenue general ledger account.

  4. Complete the invoice processing as usual.

Summary

If the error message "Control account must be of type Creditor" appears:

  • Verify that the supplier code has been entered correctly and manually.

  • Use the standard Accounts Payable (Creditors) account in the Control Account field.

  • Do not use an expense or revenue account as the Control Account.

  • Select the actual posting account later in the invoice booking lines.

Following these steps will allow the supplier to be created and saved successfully in Basecone.
