When manually posting invoices users already have the possibility to spread costs of an invoice over different periods via the option deferred costs. Automating this can be useful for booking costs that are paid annually, but that you want to distribute it over multiple periods to which these cost relates to. Consider, for example, costs for insurances or subscriptions.
Activate the Deferred Cost and Spread Revenue:
Navigate to the Company Settings and open the Preferences tab. Ensure that the Deferred Cost and Spread Revenue option is enabled for the relevant company.

To enable Deferred Cost and Spread Revenue functionality on bookings, follow these steps:

Alternatively, these values can be populated automatically by getting it from Booking Entry Rules:Go to the Automation screen.
If a Supplier or Customer has specific posting rules configured (e.g., Amount Distribution set to

, with the toggle enabled for a specific line), these rules will be applied automatically.To trigger this automation, simply select the relevant Supplier or Customer on the booking screen. The system will apply the corresponding rules and populate the values accordingly.
If the Amount Distribution is not enabled or not filled in, the dates will not be applied automatically.

The deferred dates on the lines will not be updated when saving the posting rule during the booking process.
